Texas based company ConnectGEN is proposing a 26,000 acre industrial wind turbine project in the Laramie Valley beginning in early 2021 call the rail tie wind project. Plans call for up to one hundred fifty-one 675 foot turbines, a 7000 foot maintenance building, an 8 acre switch yard, and two 5 acre substations. Once erected, these structures will wipe out the view shed of the entire Laramie Valley. Studies show that area property values may plummet. And it's estimated that vital tourism will drop off significantly.
Our beautiful and wide open spaces are falling victim to the industrialization of nature. Never before have wind turbines this tall been constructed on dry land. The planned turbines were built for use in oceans and waterways. This project will be visible from Happy Jack, Vedauwoo, Boulder Ridge, and Laramie--both during the day and at night. Blinking red lights, in place to ward off low-flying aircraft, will pollute our night skies, ruining our beautiful vistas with these giant eyesores.
Construction of an industrial wind farm at this location cannot be justified by the small amount of tax revenue it will bring. The lasting damage to our quality of life, our tourism, and our property values will far outweigh that.
Get informed regarding the negative impacts of wind energy here and elsewhere. We can’t let the infusion of a few dollars by Big Wind destroy our community’s character and put us all at risk.
Although we are opposed to the proposed Rail Tie Wind Project, our organization is more concerned that area residents are informed about this and future energy projects. And that residents have an opportunity to voice an opinion--for or against.
Our goal is that Albany County revises and publishes an energy management plan, so that future projects are conducted with transparency, and with the interests of Albany County residents first and foremost.
