Historical highlights of the Laramie Valley
The area proposed is the epicenter of Wyoming history. It is:
- Home of Wyoming’s most famous book My Friend Flicka translated into 7 languages and made into 2 Hollywood movies.
- Home to the oldest Wyoming ranch held in ownership within the same family, the Double XX Ranch.
- Home of Ames Monument, a granite pyramid, truly an engineering wonder which stands at the tallest point on the transcontinental railroad.
- Home of 650-foot Dale Creek Bridge. The Dale Creek Bridge was the most difficult challenge presented to engineers of the United States transcontinental railroad.
- Home of the Lincoln Highway, the earliest transcontinental highway route for automobiles across the United States. Cecille B. DeMille chose this landscape to skillfully interweave a classic film of old west legend The Plainsman starring Gary Cooper and Jean Arthur.
Sitting north of the proposed lease is one of the most visited wide crack rock climbing areas in the world, Vedauwoo, an Arapahoe word meaning “earth-born’. It was once believed that these magnificent rock formations were created by playful spirits.
Wyoming has long migration routes, long view sheds, fragile and arid ecotourism destinations. Poorly planned and executed Renewable Energy projects threaten Wyoming’s wildlife and ecotourism industry, our health, and the health and economy of our children and their children.
